Earlier this year, Slayer announced they were doing one last tour to bid farewell to their die-hard fans. Included on their final list of tour dates was a stop here in St. Louis on August 9th at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre. Established in 1981, the legendary thrash metal band is rightfully regarded as one of the most influential metal bands alongside Anthrax who was also on the ticket (“The Big Four”). The tour also brought along Napalm Death, Testament, and Lamb Of God.
Although this tour ushers Slayer out of a nearly 40 year legacy, their performance was as lively and ritualistically great as one would hope for out of a legendary group like themselves. It seems as though some bands’ live shows decline with age, but Slayer is a different breed; their set was jam-packed with hits, pyrotechnics, and crowd-interaction that fans are sure to write home about.
