Saint Louis University’s department of athletics honored 61 outstanding student-athletes at the Straight A Luncheon Tuesday, May 5, at Lorenzini’s in Chaifetz Arena. The luncheon recognized all student-athletes who received a straight-As or a 4.0 grade point average during either the spring 2014 or fall 2014 semester.

“It is a great day anytime we can come together as a community and celebrate the academic achievements of our student-athletes,” director of athletics Chris May said. “We couldn’t be more proud of the accomplishments of our student-athletes and we congratulate them for their continued academic success. We also would like to thank the faculty and staff who were at the luncheon today for inspiring our student-athletes to achieve at such a high level.”

All honorees invited a University faculty or staff member to attend the luncheon to express appreciation for the role he or she played in inspiring the student-athlete.

The cumulative GPA of those who attended the luncheon is 3.763. A total of 15 attendees will graduate next week. Two senior student-athletes – Natalie Myers and Michael Scolarici – attended the luncheon all four years during their SLU careers.

Following an introduction by May and NCAA Faculty Representative Dr. Michael Ross, Corinne Holtmann (Saintsations) delivered the invocation. After lunch, Michelle Sabick, Ph.D., professor and chair of Biomedical Engineering as SLU, spoke on behalf of the faculty and staff. Scolarici spoke on behalf of the Billiken student-athletes.
