Following the viral success of her fan-demanded single “I Just Don’t Know You Yet,” UK singer/songwriter Absolutely unveils the soaring song’s stunning official music video today via Epic Records. Directed by Dano Cerny (The Chainsmokers, Labrinth, Bishop Briggs), the equally hypnotic visual transforms the ballad’s powerful themes of hope and longing into engrossing, dreamlike imagery that lingers long after the final note. Inspired by the Red String of Fate myth — the belief that we are already connected to those we’re destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance — the video for “I Just Don’t Know You Yet” follows Absolutely as she traces a glowing crimson thread through a black void. With fluid, continuous camera movement, the clip pulls together a series of haunting vignettes: a bed suspended in space, a lone bench, blurred figures frozen in motion, faceless crowds, and floating staircases. Each moment is tethered by the same unbroken string, which serves as a powerful metaphor for love.
First previewed on her summer tour with BANKS, the track sparked a spontaneous extended standing ovation in Arizona and quickly exploded across TikTok. Her initial post of the performance has amassed millions of views and inspired covers from fans and praise from artists including Kehlani, Julia Michaels, Meghan Trainor, Zara Larsson, Natasha Bedingfield, and Absolutely’s sister Raye, among others. Due to overwhelming demand, she released the song right away.
Opening with massive, warm piano chords, “I Just Don’t Know You Yet” finds Absolutely openly dreaming about a less lonely future with lyrics that cut to the bone. “I just don’t know you yet / But I know you’ve been sent from God to teach me to love again,” she belts over crashing cymbals and soaring guitars. It’s a hopeful ballad that turns vulnerability into strength, spotlighting Absolutely’s remarkable gift for making the most personal emotions feel universal. And her vocal performance is staggering.
No doubt, the song will be a highlight of the rising star’s supporting set on Raye’s This Tour May Contain New Music, alongside her (other) sister Amma.
