Los Angeles-based alt-pop artist SHOOP releases his summery debut single “CAPRIS,” out now via Epic Records. With a sticky mix of sunshine and slack, the effortlessly catchy cut marks the moment that songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Brandon Shoop steps out from behind the scenes. After crafting tunes with everyone from ROLE MODEL to Dijon — and holding it down on the drums for Junior Varsity — he introduces a punchy, passionate, and slyly potent vision as a solo artist. With jangling guitars, a rolling rhythm, and laughter in the background, “CAPRIS” goes down real easy. SHOOP sonically nods to the bright, bob-along late-’90s hits of Sugar Ray while putting his own raw spin on the sound — bringing a yearning, modern R&B coo to the verse. Lyrically, he’s working through some complicated feelings about his need for attention from women, but the irresistibly sing-along chorus hits like a can of yellow beer on a hot day: “I like girls, you know them girls, with them girly cigarettes / They chew me up and spit me out, I don’t see the benefit / Puts her feet on my couch like there’s nothing to do.”

SHOOP shared his thoughts on “CAPRIS” ahead of the release:

“It seems surface-level, but in actuality, it’s about serious insecurity. The song examines the need to be validated all the time from girls in order not to feel like a prepubescent boy anymore. Everything in ‘CAPRIS’ is true. You could say I’m trying to beat myself to the joke before I’m the punchline.”

The “CAPRIS” music video extends the song’s good vibes, finding SHOOP behind the wheel of a classic Ford F150, scooping up his girl and some buds for a day out in the sun. As he cruises through the streets of Los Angeles on the way to touch grass, he’s distracted by various women with cigarettes — and a cameo by his friend, singer Aiden Bissett — before settling back into the mission at hand.

In addition to playing drums and producing with Junior Varsity over the past few years, SHOOP has quietly made a name for himself in the studio, working with an impressive array of indie-leaning artists. His breakthrough came with co-producing Allison Ponthier’s 2021 single “Cowboy,” and he’s since leant his winning touch to the Sarah Cothran’s “Baby Why” for (2022), Maude Latour’s “Heaven” (2023), ROLE MODEL’s “Writing’s on the Wall” (2024), and many others. Check out his production playlist HERE.

After shining for years as a sought-after collaborator, the Pennsylvania-born artist steps into the spotlight with “CAPRIS” — stay tuned for more as SHOOP rolls out the songs he’s been keeping for himself.

About SHOOP

SHOOP wanted to hear something exciting, so he went ahead and made it himself. The Pennsylvania-born and Los Angeles-based artist, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist stretches the boundaries of pop with his bare hands, leaning on an uncompromising no-fucks-given approach powered by live instrumentation, airtight songcraft, and a whole lot of attitude. Upon graduating college, the Harrisburg, PA, native bounced around between jobs, saving enough money to move to New York City and pursue music full-time by 2020. Locking in with intense focus, he grinded in countless studio sessions, landing his first major placement when he co-produced “Cowboy” for Allison Ponthier in 2021. Establishing himself as a sought-after collaborator behind-the-scenes, his catalog expanded with the likes of “Writing’s On The Wall” for ROLE MODEL, “Baby Why” for Sarah Cothran, “Heaven” for Maude Latour, and many more. Along the way, he hit the road with Biig Piig as her drummer. He joined Junior Varsity, performing and collaborating on EPs such as Junior VarsitySide B, and My Star. After shining for years as a sought-after collaborator, he steps into the spotlight with a series of 2025 singles for Epic Records, beginning with “CAPRIS.” Ultimately, SHOOP cooks up the kind of music that could make you nod your head, shake your hips, and feel a little bit harder all at once.
