Head Coach Olof Mellberg
On the mood in the locker room after tonight’s game:
Very disappointed. We haven’t had that many minutes yet, so we had just a short talk. I think the guys felt that was an opportunity wasted again. As I said, after that break [weather delay], we had a really good talk. It was a possibility for us to also watch those six minutes and really see where we could do better. Especially coming out with more energy. And the feeling was after that break that we had a really good chance of winning here today, but it wasn’t to be.
On what went wrong tonight:
I think we could have been a little bit more determined in the first half going forward. We had quite a lot of possession, and we could have used that better, been a little bit more direct. I remember in the second half that little chip [Marcel Hartel] played to [Jõao Klauss], which created a lot of danger. I think we could have done more of that in the first half, especially where we were had a little bit too much possession and created more chances. There were not that many chances, on either end, but definitely details we could have done better to have created more chances.
On what he has liked from Jake Girdwood-Reich:
I think he’s done extremely well. I didn’t know much of him before and I tried to look carefully at games in the past before I came here, but it was difficult to know. He was out for a long time, and he has really surprised me in a positive way.
Midfielder Jake Girdwood-Reich
On if the frustration levels are rising for the team:
I wouldn’t say high, but we are frustrated in terms of the performances we’ve put on the field. I think as a group in tough times, we have to stick together. It’s either going to break us or make us, and we need to make that an opportunity for us to start winning games.
On how he has felt personally getting significant minutes recently:
Obviously as a footballer you want to play games, and I had a really tough time mentally. Obviously having surgery in the offseason and missing the whole preseason and part of the season. I’ve worked really hard, and I’m happy to get the opportunity. But again, I don’t like losing, and I think I just want to win games, and we need to be better.
On the recent stretch of games:
There’s been a lot of games. I think for me personally, I’ve never played three games in a week in my career. So, it’s definitely been hard on my body. But again, as a footballer you want to play as many games as possible. And I think I’m just disappointed we haven’t come away with the points, and we didn’t get through to the U.S. Open Cup.
