St. Chux Derby Crew (SCDC) is primed for Sunday’s flat-track roller derby home opener and, in the process, renewing a friendly rivalry.

SCDC faces Cape Girardeau Roller Derby at Steel Shop Athletic and Events (49 Lawrence St., Saint Charles). The first whistle blows at 3 pm.

It’s been exactly three years since the pair of Missouri entrants competing within the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) last skated against each other.

“We are so excited for our return to home games!” said veteran co-captain Trekkie Monster. “Cape was the last team we hosted for a home game as (St. Chux) Derby Chix in 2022, so it’s very fitting that they’re the team we open with as the Crew in 2025.”

Much like a name change, SCDC has also found itself re-positioned in the complexion of the WFTDA rankings.

St. Chux competes within the governing body’s North American West Region and is currently unranked. Meanwhile, the Show-Me State visitors rank #74 in North American Southeast.

To prepare for this weekend’s tilt, SCDC competed on the road last Saturday against the Southern Illinois Roller Gremlins. Although they suffered a setback on the scoreboard, the Crew – less than 15 skaters on the roster – gained some valuable experience.

“Our game at SIRG was tough, but I’m so proud of our team for our resilience and adaptable in the face of obstacles,” reflected Trekkie. “We aren’t strangers to playing short or to needing a contingency plan, and being a small league often amplifies the magnitude of a challenge. We know to be ready for anything, and that experience will benefit us in future games.”

Alongside Monster, SCDC’s projected line-up for the afternoon includes Sailor Goon, STAG, Bones Appetit, Killipso, Blue, Ella Trick Mayhem, Dimebag Cheryl, Benny Drillz, Reck-It-Rena, Murdermaid, Hurts Donut, Slash and the Creature.

Cape has also made some early laps and reps. CGRD hosted Rock Town Roller Derby (Little Rock, AR) last month.

“They’re great team, and we expect a fun match up,” anticipated Trekkie. “Both teams have seen a lot of changes since we last played each other. However, we’ve played with and against each other at scrimmages, and several Cape skaters dual charter with (Southern Illinois).”

Tickets for the event are $10 at the door while children under 12 are free.

St. Chux would appreciate a loud crowd at the first of their two-game home campaign this spring.

“We’re so excited to be playing together again at our home venue,” said Monster. “For fans who can’t make it out to Steel Shop this weekend, we hope to welcome fans again on April 19th!”
