“Gazing at the mirror’s reflection, human meat’s allure,
Carving a path in skin’s miseration, that seeping scarlet bloom.”
Nightborn explains, “‘Impenitent Ones’ is about falling in love with one’s own skin and flesh. It explores themes of autophagia and cannibalism, where a person becomes increasingly obsessed with their own skin, finds pleasure in carving themselves, and eventually starts consuming their own flesh. The demo title of this track was ‘Zambian Meat,’ based on an infamous true story about a cannibalism website where users were categorized as chefs and slaves. People actually volunteered to be killed and eaten. The track also draws heavy inspiration from a cinematic masterpiece from 2002: Dans Ma Peau (In My Skin), a French film about a woman practicing autophagia.”
For the recording of “Impenitent Ones” and the EP, Arda used an extremely rare Ken Lawrence Explorer guitar, the only one of its kind in the world. This guitar played a crucial role in the creation of this EP, which features four brand-new songs. The songs are unrelenting, speed-driven thrash anthems. The EP includes all music and lyrics written by Arda in classic Nightborn fashion, with Simon McKay (The Agonist) performing the drum parts, while Hubert Wiecek (Ex-Decapitated, Dieth, Banisher) handles the bass parts. The EP was mixed and mastered at Chris Donaldson’s studio in Montreal, CA, by Remi LeGresley (Grizzly Productions).
Nightborn will release one song from the EP each week, and the entire EP will be available on digital platforms on November 19th.
