Lindenwood Men’s Ice Hockey Falls 3-2 to #9 Wisconsin in Overtime

MADISON, WIS. – On Saturday night, men’s ice hockey (1-0-0) took on Wisconsin (0-1-0) for the second time this weekend. The Lions would fall to the nationally ranked Badgers 3-2 in an overtime thriller.

GAME OVERVIEW
In the first period, things were quiet for much of the period. Lindenwood would find the only score in the period with 5:37 left in the frame. The Lions goal would be scored by Ethan Zielke on a tap-in opportunity. Zielke’s goal would be assisted by Jack Anderson and Ty Hipkin. With the only goal in the period coming from the Lions, Lindenwood would lead 1-0, after a period of play. Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 11 saves in the period. In the period, the Lions put six pucks on net. Strong defensive effort by the Lions kept the nationally ranked Badgers in the first frame scoreless.

In the second period, the Lions would strike early in the frame coming from a David Gagnon one-timer, just 2:31 into the frame. Gagnon’s goal would be assisted by Ethan Zielke. The Badgers would break their scoreless drought in the second frame, scoring with 34 seconds left in the period, while on the power play. After two periods of play, Lindenwood would lead 2-1. Bartozskiewicz in the period made 15 stops. The Lions had seven pucks on net in the period.

In the third period, much like the first period, things were quiet in the offensive zone for the majority of the period. The Badgers were able to find the first goal in the period with 5:31 left in regulation, tying the game up at 2-2. The Badgers goal would come while even-strength. Both teams would be held scoreless for the remainder of the period, forcing overtime. In the period Bartozskiewicz made ten saves.

In overtime, the Badgers found the back of the net with 18 seconds left, off a broken play. After the final whistle, the Lions fall to 1-1-0 on the season. Bartoszkiewicz made six saves in overtime, for a total of 42 saves on the night.
