In their final game before a Christmas break, the St. Louis Ambush gave their fans a gift with a 4-1 win over the Dallas Sidekicks Sunday afternoon at The Family Arena. The win improved the Ambush to 1-3-1 on the season, while Dallas dropped to 1-3-0.
After a first quarter that was void of scoring, the Ambush got on the board first in the sixth minute of the second frame when Mike Da-Silva sent a slow roller along the boards to Robert Kristo, who navigated a difficult angle to send the ball into the goal. It would prove to be the lone tally of the first half, which ended with St. Louis up 1-0.
The Ambush doubled their lead in the seventh minute of the third stanza when Kristo struck again, turning and firing from just inside the arc. Dallas recorded their first goal when Nestor Hernandez scored off a pass from Albert Rodriguez in the thirteenth minute to make it a 2-1 game.
St. Louis nailed another goal in the eighth minute of the fourth period when Kristo sent a pass to a charging Lucas Almeida, who buried his shot in the back of the net to increase the lead to 3-1. Almeida posted his second of the duel, this time assisted by Da-Silva, in the ninth minute to make it 4-1. With the sixth attacker in play for Dallas, James Togbah scored an empty-netter for the Ambush, giving them a 5-1 lead that would hold until the final buzzer.
The Ambush will enjoy a brief hiatus over Christmas weekend before returning to the turf on Thursday, December 28 when they visit the Kansas City Comets at 7:05 p.m. CT at the Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence. The two teams then clash again on New Year’s Eve at 2:05 p.m. at The Family Arena. All games are webcast at twitch.com.
