Yuri Collins Named Finalist for Cousy Award

Saint Louis point guard Yuri Collins was announced as one of five finalists for the 2023 Bob Cousy Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced today.

Collins is the NCAA leader in total assists (304) and assists average (10.1 per game). When adding in his 11.3 ppg (second on team), Collins is the only player in the NCAA averaging a points/assists double-double. He is vying to become just the fifth player in NCAA history to finish a season averaging double-digits in both points and assists.

Collins already holds every assists record in school history – career (858), single-season (304 in 2022-23) and single-game (20 vs. Tennessee State earlier this year). Additionally, he is the active career assists leader in the NCAA across all three levels. Collins is also the A-10 assists leader for a single season and a career.

The other finalists for the Cousy Awards are Markquis Nowell (Kansas State), Tyler Kolek (Marquette), Boo Buie (Northwestern) and Jalen Pickett (Penn State).

Fans can support their favorite players in the remaining rounds by participating in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, starting Friday, March 10, on hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process. The Selection Committee for the Bob Cousy Award is composed of top men’s college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers.

The winner of the 2023 Bob Cousy Award will be presented on a to be determined date, along with the other four members of the Men’s Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Jerry West Award (Shooting Guard), Julius Erving Award (Small Forward), Karl Malone Award (Power Forward) and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award (Center), in addition to the Women’s Starting Five.
