Saint Louis guard Yuri Collins is one of 50 players named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Associations’ Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List, as announced today by the USBWA.
The Oscar Robertson Trophy, the nation’s oldest Player of the Year award and named in honor of the former University of Cincinnati star, will be announced at the 2023 Men’s Final Four in Houston. A formal trophy presentation will follow at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon at the Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis.
Collins is the NCAA leader in total assists (191) and assists average (10.6 per game). When adding in his 11.8 ppg (second on team), Collins is the only player in the NCAA averaging a points/assists double-double. His is vying to become just the fifth player in NCAA history to finish a season averaging double-digits in both points and assists.
Collins already holds every assists record in school history – career (745), single-season (267 in 2021-22) and single-game (20 vs. Tennessee State earlier this year). Additionally, he is the active career assists leader in the NCAA across all three levels. Collins is third in A-10 history in career assists and needs just 38 more to become the A-10’s all-time leader in assists.
Collins was named to the Bob Cousy Award Watch List earlier this year, an award sponsored by the Basketball Hall of Fame that goes to the nation’s top point guard. Last year, Collins was a first-team All-Conference selection by the Atlantic 10.
