The latest episode of the #ArchCityMusic Podcast featured a local legend – multi-platinum rapper Howard Earl Bailey Jr., aka H Thugz, but better known and loved as Chingy. The man known for mega-hits such as One Call Away, Holidae In, Pullin’ Me Back, and, of course, Right Thurr, joined us to talk about growing up in St. Louis, starting his music career before he started high school, his acting and entrepreneurial ventures, and all his favorite things about our shared hometown. While we’ve featured many spectacular artists on the #ArchCityMusic Podcast it was particularly fun to have our first homegrown artist and I’d say he had as much fun as we did.
I’m just old enough to remember Chingy dominating the radio charts and living rent-free on my iPod nano while I grew up in St. Louis myself, so to have him as a podcast guest was a special experience; my parents are young enough that they too were excited about this guest. My co-host Chad recalls playing football against Chingy’s alma mater McCluer North while they were both high school students, and of course remembers the peak years of Chingy’s career as he was atop the radio charts and party playlists alike. Our newest co-host, DJ, grew up nearby Chingy’s hometown and brings a unique perspective to the interview for that reason. Listen to us discuss his upcoming album Chinglish, his new business ventures, moving to Los Angeles, and of course his concert next Saturday, July 30th, at The Camp at Lake Wappapello:

Chingy is joined at The Camp by fellow 2000s hip-hop sensation Baby Bash, the artist behind tracks such as Suga Suga and Cyclone. Sharing the stage next weekend will be reminiscent of their time sharing the spotlight atop the hip-hop world and it’s sure to be one hell of a party. Though we weren’t able to find a time to speak with Baby Bash we are thrilled to meet him, and of course Chingy, when we return to The Camp next weekend as guests of Summit Entertainment Live. You can join us there because tickets are still available and at only $25 it’s the best deal you’ve seen all summer – get them while you still can!
