Foo Fighters play explosive show to nearly 20,000 fans

Foo Fighters played to a near-sold out crowd on Tuesday night at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Maryland Heights.  They brought it, blew it up, and left the stage smoldering ash.

The band entered the stage amid darkness and semi-quiet crowd cheers.  When the lights burst, the crowd erupted.  Dave Grohl walked the length of the stage a couple of times, stopping to breathe in and ponder the moment, seemingly in a nod of gratitude to the sea of Foo fans.

The band opened with an “unplugged” version of the (near) 20 year old hit, “Times Like These” and it was a gentle ease onto the gas pedal to the rest of the set that went straight to 125mph immediately after as they rocked “The Pretender”.  (You can find the entire setlist below.)

Flash forward to the much anticipated Dee Gees cover of  the Bee Gees “You Should Be Dancing”, followed by their cover of Queen’s “Somebody To Love”.  Drummer, Taylor Hawkins, stepped out from behind the drum kit (with Barry Gibb’s face emblazoned on the kick drum) to sing the classic hit.   This.  Was.  Epic.  If you weren’t there, so sorry you missed it.

The Foo Fighters wrapped their encore with three heavy hitters: “Best of You” (2005), “Monkey Wrench” (1997), and “Everlong” (1997).  It’s so hard to imagine that we’ve had and loved the Foo Fighters for this long!  Group longevity in mainstream music is uncommon and extraordinary….but so are the Foos.

If you don’t have them already, get your hands on the Foo Fighters latest albums, Medicine at Midnight (2021) and the Dee Gees, Hail Satin (2021).
