Saint Louis junior forward Hasahn French earned Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday, the league announced.
French had a monstrous game in the Billikens’ win against Belmont on Saturday. He scored 21 points, collected 24 rebounds, had seven blocked shots and dished out four assists.
French’s 24 boards tied the Atlantic 10 Conference record, tied the third-highest total in Saint Louis history and set a Chaifetz Arena record. His seven rejections tied for the second most in Billiken annals and equaled the Chaifetz Arena mark.
In addition, French registered the first 20-point, 20-rebound game by a Billiken since Anthony Bonner’s 45-point, 20-rebound performance vs. Loyola Chicago on March 1, 1990.
In the Billikens’ win against High Point earlier in the week, French posted nine points and nine rebounds while also registering two blocked shots. He became SLU’s all-time career leader in blocked shots, surpassing Ian Vouyoukas’ previous record of 135 blocks.
For the season, French is one of just two players in the NCAA (Daniel Oturu, Minnesota) averaging 10+ ppg, 10+ rpg and 3.0+ bpg.
The Billikens (5-1) are back in action on Wednesday when they face Boston College at 1 p.m. (CT) in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. The game will be televised on ACC Network.
