Hosted by 105.7 The Point, KONGOS performed their danceable, catchy, powerful rock amid misty blue, red and pink low lights in St. Louis at The Delmar Hall on October 4, 2019. The smaller but enthusiastic crowd bopped and sang along to hits and newer songs off their just-released album 1929: Part 2 from this band out of Phoenix via South Africa and London.

“It’s about being on tour with Fitness,” Jesse Kongos, drummer, joked before launching into one of their newer songs “Stuck in Time.”

The driving, almost primal-like beat of “Hey I Don’t Know,” drove the fans gathered on the floor to a frenzy, eliciting several shouts of appreciation. The four brothers then shifted seamlessly into “Fools” from the new album.

Recognized in 2014 as one of rock’s most infectious and invigorating new voices with their hit single “Come With Me Now,” (which made it in the setlist Saturday night), it’s not hard to hear why KONGOS continues to win fans and hearts worldwide.

Opening for KONGOS were Yip Yops and Fitness.

Yip Yops started the night out with scattered energy and well, some yips. The young duo out of Palm Desert, CA soon settled into their sound which included the just-released (October 4) single “Death of a Gentleman” reminiscent of Depeche Mode and INXS.

Fitness performed the middle set. Vocalist Max Collins told the crowd they tried to make it as difficult as possible to Google their band by choosing that name. They did share that you can find them by searching “fitness was taken dot com.” Collins and Kenny Carkeet, the duo that makes up Fitness are former members of Eve 6 and AWOLNATION respectively. Heavy-hitting songs included “Get Dead,” with the bass turned up to 100, “Matter of Time,” and their newly released single “High.”
