STL’s Music Scene Chief Ambassador is Throwing a Benefit Concert
Debbstock is coming Sunday September 8th to the Old Rock House. From 4-9pm you can hear music from some of this City’s finest musicians.
Why? Because the man with the biggest heart for music in the STL is throwing a benefit for the woman who taught him to love music, his mom Debbie.
Shane Presley is STL’s number one music fan, number one music ambassador, and probably tied with Noah Leiner for the nicest fella in the entire music scene. His Rock Paper Podcast has featured almost every local musician at one point or another just to hang and talk the STL scene. He’s even been so kind as to let a lug like me come on and chat on three separate occasions! What a mensch !!!
But right now, that big ol’ heart of his is hurting. Shane’s mom, the woman he still loves to go to shows and rock with, has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme brain cancer in June. She began chemo and radiation treatment Aug 12. And as Shane states, “As everyone knows, it’s expensive and bills keep coming. I’ve made a lot of great friends over the years of doing the podcast, many of them wanted to help. So, it made sense to put together this concert.”
Yes it does. The man who has put his all into promoting nearly every single band in this city reached out to our music community for help, and the response was immediate and amazingly heartfelt.
Look at this lineup!
Al Holliday & The East Side Rhythm Band
The Scandaleros
Big Mike Aguirre + The Blu City Allstars
Jackson Stokes
Matt Wynn & Joe Bizelli
Nearly all of us volunteered to play, so why these folks? “These particulars were chosen because they are all a bunch of mom’s personal favorites. We hope to pack the house full of love and put a smile on her face.” I see absolutely no better way on earth to pick a lineup.
I asked Shane how he became so passionate about music, and where his love for the art began.
“Mom was a big part of my love of music. She was always into more Blues music. I can recall her listening to Clapton, BB King, Bo Diddley & the Allman Brothers. Which are still some of my favorites today! As of more recently, since she retired, it’s been a lot of fun to flip the roles and introduce her to all of my favorites around town. We would go to a lot of shows and all of my friends thought it was so cool that I hang out with my mom. After all she’s the one that started all of this love for music.”
I can tell you from the bottom of my heart, this is the kind of guy Shane is. When ya meet him, ya wanna hug him. He’s never the kind to brush you off for someone cooler, someone with a bigger name. He wants to hang, help, and become friends. And like every one of us, he wants to hang with his kick ass mom as long as possible.
Let’s rally around the man whose mission is to tell the entire world how amazing the St. Louis Music scene is. Let’s rally around our friend and the woman who brought him up to be the compassionate and awesome guy he is.
Come by Debbstock to the Old Rock House on Sunday September 8th anytime between 4-9pm to donate, hang, talk, and rock. There is no better way to spend a Sunday.
