Yes, it’s true – Jesse McCartney still has it!
Amidst one of the nastiest cold fronts the Midwest has ever seen, droves and droves of McCartney’s fans lined up and wrapped around the block braving the cold to see their favorite 2000’s popstar make his return to St. Louis. While the last time he was in town was only six months ago, the singer promised a bigger, better show on his current Resolution Tour when it was announced last fall. From last summer to last night, the singer booked a venue double the size of the last and owned every inch of the stage.
When McCartney hit the stage with “How Do You Sleep?” and “Leavin”, it was as if someone hit the rewind button and the whole room was transported back to 2008 at the sound of the first few notes. Throughout the night, he floated between music from the 2000s to the current decade with ease, giving the fans familiar music with a mix of songs, like “Selfless” and “Soul”, from the upcoming album he hinted at throughout his 80-minute set. All while, still dancing along with the singer and cheering him on despite knowing the new songs or not.
Unique dance moves, crowd interaction including bringing a fan up onstage to sing directly to her, and even slowing things down with just McCartney and his guitarist, it is clear that McCartney has matured, become more polished, but is still the singer that every girl faltered for ten years ago.
Closing out the night with “Beautiful Soul”, he left the stage after thanking the fans for a great night. A smile stayed plastered across McCartney’s face for the vast majority of the night, lighting up most at the end of the last song, notably grateful for the energy of the room and the fans in attendance that have witnessed his 15-year run in the industry thus far.
That’s the thing about teen heartthrobs — If you treat your fans right, they will stay with you forever. And there’s nothing more I wish than for that to continue to hold true for Jesse McCartney as he further explores his music and style for the foreseeable future.
