Nikki Procasky is a die hard Cardinals fan, her father was a die hard Cubs fan. He passed away 18 years ago. He always told his family that when he died, he wanted to be cremated and have his ashes spread at Wrigley Field.
Saturday night, she made the trip to Wrigley Field for the first time, thanks to her cousin.
They got in line early because they had bleacher seats and wanted to get in the front row. With the help of a few fans playing look out, she spread the ashes of her father in the ivy and on the warning track.
“I left him with a perfect Centerfield view of every game at Wrigley and I was happy.”
Later in the game, Matt Carpenter cranked a home run that landed directly in front of her, barely over the fence, hitting the brick and ivy in the exact spot where she had spread her father’s ashes before the game.
The ball bounced back onto the field and Albert Almoro gave her a dirty look and threw it back in when she begged for the ball. Unfortunately, he didn’t know the significance for her.
“Karma and fate are real, y’all, and that was my Daddy allowing a Cards win, thanking me for finally making his dreams come true, and putting him in his beloved final resting place. Aside from marrying the love of my life and birthing my children, last night was the best day of my life, it was magical! I even made the SportsCenter Snapchat! I was the only Cardinal red in a sea of Cubbies blue.”
