Storms set the evening in St. Louis at Hollywood Casino Amphitheater on Saturday, July 14th. I didn’t know what to expect throughout the night, simply for the fact that I don’t normally listen to this type of music. I will have to say, that by the end of the night, I was astonished by what I heard and seen.
Deadly Apples started the evening off with “Further” and “Self Inflicted Oppression.” Alex Martel founded the band in Montreal back in 2002. This is the band’s first US show in 8 years and a huge break for them at that. Touring with Manson and Zombie will definitely help in their career.
Marilyn Manson came on set in a cloud of fog, starting the night off with “Irresponsible Hate Anthem.” I knew from that moment, that I was in for a treat. The crowd went ballistic and joined in singing right along with Manson. Of course we can’t give all the credit to Manson for an amazing performance. Tyler Bates and Gil Sharone did their fair share in backing up Manson and keeping the crowd going. Marilyn’s set list included: “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” “The Dope Show,” “This is the New Shit,” “mObscene” and from his new album, Heaven Upside Down: “Kill4Me” and “Say10.” Manson ended the evening with “The Beautiful People” and “Cry Little Sister,” which gave me chills because of the dark, snowy scene along with the crucifix above the stage. By the end of the set, I think it’s safe to say that everyone was pumped, ready and glad that the two (Marilyn/Zombie) made up after their feud back in 2012.
Rob Zombie, John 5, Piggy D. and Ginger Fish definitely did not disappoint by opening with “Meet the Creeper.” Zombie, in his skin-tight leather bell bottoms and tasselled leather jacket, didn’t stop him from running around and doing jumps on the stage. Zombie made his stage presence with a dozen different screens to show vintage movies, burlesque footage, and homages to dead horror film heroes during his set list.
Zombie continued the night with “Superbeast,” “Living Dead Girl,” “School’s Out” and “More Human than Human.” Right before he started singing “In the Age of the Consecrated Vampire We All Get High,” Zombie made a statement to the crowd: “If you aren’t high, you should be, because I’m not the ….ing cops.” John 5 took the stage with his guitar solo, using a lighted guitar, while Zombie walked around in the crowd. If you weren’t already mesmerized by everything at this point, the large-scale space robot roaming around on stage, should’ve drawn you in.
Just as you thought the night was over, Manson and Zombie took the stage, and sang a rendition of “Helter Skelter.” The two (Manson and Zombie) joked about the tour and being twins. At this point, I think everyone could’ve stayed up all night and kept rocking out. The stage cleared and a giant, life-sized dragon made its presence front and center. Zombie slowly walked up the back of the dragon, smoke pouring out of the mouth, and ended the night with “Dragula.”
Zombie made a great statement toward the end of his set. He stated “Put your phone down for 3 minutes, you have enough pictures and videos of me, everyone is on their phone and not enjoying the moment. So just put your phones down for 3 minutes!”A preview of Rob Zombie’s new movie ‘3 From Hell” was shown at the end of the tour. If you are into dark, twisted and suspense, I highly suggest that you see it when it comes out in 2019!
