THE BASICS
• Five players scored in double figures for Saint Louis, and the Billikens pulled away with a 16-4 third-quarter run on their way to a 96-73 Atlantic 10 Conference win over Saint Joseph’s Sunday afternoon at Chaifetz Arena.
• The annual “Billikens Pink Out Game” to raise awareness of breast cancer was played in front of 6,346 spectators.
• The Billikens improved to 10-9 overall and 4-2 in conference play with their second straight victory. Saint Joseph’s fell to 9-9, 4-2.
• The victory was the 100th for Lisa Stone as the Billikens’ head coach.
• Jackie Kemph posted game highs of 21 points and 13 assists (just one shy of her career high), her fourth double-double this season and 15th of her career.
• Paige Rakers registered 16 points, five rebounds and a career-high four assists.
• Maddison Gits recorded her fourth career double-double, scoring 10 points (5-of-7 FG) and pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds.
• Tara Dusharm (4-of-6 FG) equaled her career high of 12 points, and Aaliyah Covington also tossed in 12 points.
FIRST QUARTER
• Kemph put Saint Louis in front for good, 5-4, with a basket at the 7:50 mark. That triggered a 16-3 flurry – in which five different players scored – that gave the Billikens a 19-7 lead.
• Saint Joseph’s drained 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions to trim the SLU lead to 19-16, but the Billikens outscored the Hawks 7-2 over the final 1:59 to go on top 26-18 at the buzzer.
SECOND QUARTER
• Dusharm’s bucket on SLU’s first possession gave the Billikens a double-digit lead again.
• Saint Joseph’s pulled to within six points and later five, but Covington connected from beyond the arc both times to keep Saint Louis in command.
• The Hawks battled back again and trailed 43-39 with just under a minute remaining. But Rakers’ 3-pointer with seven seconds left gave SLU a 46-39 halftime advantage.
THIRD QUARTER
• Saint Joseph’s drew first blood to narrow the Saint Louis lead to five, but from there it was all Billikens.
• SLU began its 16-4 spurt by scoring on each of its next four possessions. The Bills owned a 62-45 lead when the run ended with 4:46 left, and it was 69-53 at the end of the quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
• A Jordyn Frantz 3-pointer gave the Billikens their first lead of 20 or more, 76-54, with 8:48 to play.
• The margin remained in the 20s for most of the remainder of the period, growing to 24 prior to the final 23-point victory.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• Saint Louis’ 96 points are the most the Billikens have scored vs. an A-10 opponent this season, and their second-highest total overall (101 vs. Lipscomb).
• SLU scored at least 20 points in each quarter for the first time this season.
• The Billikens shot 50.7 percent (34-of-67) from the field, their best mark in a conference game this season.
• Saint Louis was 22-of-27 (81.5 percent) from the foul line, the fourth time in six A-10 games the Billikens have connected on better than 80 percent from the stripe.
• SLU tied its season low of eight turnovers.
• The Bills held Saint Joseph’s leading scorer Sarah Veilleux (14.6 ppg) to two points.
• The Billikens outscored the Hawks 52-32 in the paint and 36-17 in points off the bench.
• Kemph has scored 20 or more points in three consecutive games for the first time in her Saint Louis career.
• Jenny Vliet narrowly missed making it three Billiken double-doubles, finishing with nine points and eight rebounds.
• Gits added three blocks to her double-double.
