Saint Louis University senior point guard Jackie Kemph is one of 50 players named today to the 2017-18 Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List. The award is presented by the Atlanta Tipoff Club to the player of the year in women’s college basketball.
Kemph is the only player from an Atlantic 10 Conference institution on the Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List. Earlier this year, she was one of 20 players named to the watch list for the Nancy Lieberman Award, presented to the nation’s top NCAA Division I point guard.
Kemph holds the Billikens’ career record for assists (713), and she leads all active NCAA Division I players in career assists per game (6.73). She is on pace to set two more school career marks, ranking second in free throws made (369, needs 38 for the record) and third in points (1,492, needs 94 for the record).
A two-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, Kemph led Saint Louis to 51 wins – more than any other women’s or men’s basketball program in the A-10 – and two Women’s National Invitation Tournament appearances in her sophomore and junior seasons.
In the 2015-16 campaign, the Billikens posted a school-record 26 victories and captured their first conference title when they tied for the A-10 regular-season crown. That year, Kemph became the first Saint Louis women’s basketball player to earn All-America plaudits (Associated Press honorable mention, College Sports Madness High Major first team).
