The Billiken mascot will be introduced Wednesday, Jan. 25, at halftime of that night’s Saint Louis University men’s basketball game against UMass at Chaifetz Arena. The game tips at 7 p.m.
The Billiken will be joined on the court by SLU President Dr. Fred Pestello, SLU Vice President Dr. Kent Porterfield, SLU’s NCAA Faculty Representative Dr. Michael Ross, SLU Director of Athletics Chris May and more than 260 student-athletes who are being recognized on Academic Excellence Night.
The Billikens’ game against UMass is the annual Billiken Blue Out, where all fans are encouraged to wear Billiken blue. The first 1,500 students in attendance receive a free Blue Out t-shirt courtesy of Edward Jones.
Fans can purchase special $10 tickets for the game by clicking here and entering promo code SLUSTL. The game will also be televised on FOX Sports Midwest.
As part of the University’s on-going rebranding effort, a new Billiken mascot costume was initially introduced in September 2016. The University received significant feedback, and a week later, Pestello announced plans to tweak the Billiken costume. In November, nearly 17,000 people made selections in an online poll about the new mascot design. The mascot being introduced on Jan. 25 overwhelmingly reflects the results of that poll.
