The St. Louis Ambush announced today that they have hired former Ambush goalkeeper Jamie Swanner as their Goalkeeper Coach.
Swanner played for the St. Louis Ambush, Canton Invaders, Buffalo Blizzard and Kansas City Attack in a career that spanned 16 seasons. He was instrumental in the Ambush capturing the 1994-95 NPSL Championship. He was Head Coach of the Ambush for the 1999-2000 season. He was owner and Head Coach of the St. Louis Illusion (PASL-Pro) from 2008 to 2010. In 1997, Swanner became an assistant coach with both the Duchesne High School and Lewis and Clark Community College teams.
“I am excited to have this opportunity to join Tony’s staff and bring my 17 years of experience to the table,” Jamie said. “It sounds cliché, but the fans here in St. Louis have always brought the best out of me and I hope that I can assist in bringing the best out of the great talent we have here already.”
Prior to turning pro, Swanner was a member of the 1984 US Olympic Team and the 1984 US National Team. Swanner attended Southwest High School in St. Louis. After graduating from high school, he was a goalkeeper on Clemson University’s men’s soccer team. In 1983, his senior season, he earned first team All American honors and was named the ISAA Goalkeeper of the Year. He also lettered in baseball at Clemson in 1983.
