The Saint Louis Billikens dominate the Eastern Illinois Panthers with a final score of 14-1. This marks the largest margin of victory since the 2011-12 season.
The scoring frenzy started in the first period. Niall Caparon scored the first goal from a wicked wrister from the slot after a beautiful pass from Curran Eigelberger. The next goal came from freshmen Alex Smith. Smith got a cross ice pass from Sophomore defensemen Gunner O’Brien and after a hard slap shot helped the Bills get up by two goals. The scoring in the first period was rounded out by Junior Matt Gavula.
The second period was a merciless attack of offense as the Billikens tallied up eight goals! Goal scorers included: Connor Mullen, Curran Eigelberger, Niall Caparon, Isaac Rider, Andrew Greene, Michael Wiacek, Matt Aul, Charlie Garavaglia. Eight goals from eight different players in the second period was a sight to see. It speaks volumes of the team atmosphere in and out of the locker room. A complete team effort and domination from the Billikens for 20 straight minutes.
The third period was more domination by the Bills. Matt Aul got a pass in the neutral zone from Niall Caparon, skated around the entire offensive zone and shot it off the crossbar, down, and in. That was not the last goal. Freshmen forward Colton Schalk scored the Bills final goal on a one timer in the slot. Seniors Vinny Cannamela and Matt Latham received the assists.
What a night for the seniors. Every senior got on the scorebook tonight as the Billikens put a beat down on the Eastern Illinois Panthers. A big congratulations to the Billikens seniors: Matt Aul, vinny Cannamela, Charlie Gravaglia, Connor Mullen, Neal Ryan, Tyler Stewart, Matt Latham, Andrew Greene, and Curran Eigelberger.
With two goals and four assists, sophomore forward Niall Caparon finished the night with a total of six points! Next, tied with three points a piece on the night were seniors Matt Aul and Curran Eigelberger.
The Panthers managed to notch one goal late in the second period. The team finished the night with only 14 shots.
Tyler Stewart was strong in net despite facing only 14 shots. Stewart’s strong play will be key heading into the MACHA playoffs next weekend.
After a total of 60 shots for the night, The Billikens are back in action tomorrow afternoon at 12:45 against the Eastern Illinois Panthers.
