Elizabeth Everingham hit her fifth home run of the season, and Brianna Lore registered her school-record-tying 18th win of the year in Saint Louis’ 7-4 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over George Washington Friday at GW Softball Field.
The Billikens (22-19, 7-5 A-10), who began the day in fourth place in the A-10, overcame a four-run deficit to post their ninth come-from-behind win of the season. George Washington slipped to 16-28-1, 2-9.
Lore (18-11), who struck out six, tied Nicole Bohnenstiehl (2003) for the most wins by a Saint Louis pitcher in a single season. She yielded 11 hits, walked three and hit a batter but allowed George Washington to score in just one inning. The Colonials stranded nine.
After GW took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, SLU answered with four unearned runs in the top of the third.
Alex Nickel drew a leadoff walk and went to second on a wild pitch. With two away, Kelsey Biggs reached on an error, and Nickel scored on the play. Lore walked, and Everingham followed with a game-tying blast over the left-field fence.
The Billikens tallied two runs in the fourth. Hailey Weavers walked to lead off the inning, Nickel was hit by a pitch with one out, and Ellie Huffman walked to load the bases.
With two outs, Weavers scored when Biggs was hit by a pitch. Lore made it 6-4 SLU with a single that plated Nickel.
Saint Louis tacked on an unearned insurance marker in the sixth. After coaxing a one-out walk, Lindsay Friedman stole second and continued to third when the catcher’s throw got away. Friedman scored on Biggs’ ground ball.
Lore added a single for her seventh two-hit game of the season, and Mackenzie Peter and Madeline Brungardt also singled. The Bills were the beneficiaries of nine walks – Nickel, Lore and Everingham drew two free passes apiece – and four hit-by-pitch.
